ABSTRACT:

Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) and the consumerization of IT (CoIT) are some of the hottest topics in IT today. If only they were products that companies could buy, some vendors would be making a lot of money, and organizations would be making their users happy. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. To make matters worse, many people don’t even know the difference between CoIT and BYOD! The reality is that true BYOD freedom can only be achieved in certain situations, BYOD implemented in the wrong way can alienate users, and consumerization-friendly solutions can be achieved even on corporate-liable devices.

In this session, we’ll dig into what exactly BYOD is, and why it may not even be necessary when creating a CoIT-enabled environment for users. We’ll continue by parsing out issues unique to laptops, tablets, and smartphones, and the ways they need to be treated when brought into a corporate environment. Finally, we’ll discuss how to get the most out of mobile devices, whether they’re users’ personal devices or corporate-owned and managed.
